Tanaka Kar98, Too powerful?

Hello,

I have just purchased a Tanaka Mauser Kar98 gas powered rifle, but have I maybe made a mistake?

(I had better say I havent recieved it yet, its in transit)

Checking reviews, sometimes this baby can clock in at 500fps! isnt that a bit too powerfull for most sites? The main reason for buying it is for some long range power for my Panzer Grenadier loadout to offset the weak range of my MP40 AEG.

Now I find I might only be able to use it on private land games.

Thanks for any feedback in advance,

Beastor

It maybe to powerful it may not be. Its all based on what the FPS rules are for your region. Its definately to powerful to ever be used inside safely. Outdoors though it should be fine. Its definately a long range engangement rifle. Im sure with some reseach you can find a way to notch down the fps.

try using duster or H134a only instead of green
that'll bring down the fps by quite a bit

The guy who had his here used duster, it was still over 400fps, but it falls under different rules since its semi auto

Wouldn't it be possible to use duster and green to fine tune FPS..?

Or crank it up!
Word is an aftermarket gas flow valve and hammer can hit the power up to 250% more powerful. 1200 fps with .2's anybody?

When I was in Japan WW2 softers used those thing stock or fired .43g. The reason being the way the weapons from that period performed lent themselves to longer distance engagements so the Added power wasn't as huge a safety concern. People with MP40's and other era SMG would tend to move forward and skirmish between each other or CQB in Buildings and different areas.

In Canada playing with people who tend to prefer modern weapons and combat I would consider that weapon marginally safe at best. Perhaps unplayable due to its size/FPS you're certainly going to be sniping from further back than other snipers.

use a heavier BB to bring down fps if that is allowed at your field. worst comes to worse, have small icepacks in your mag pouches to cool down the gas if you want.

Energy is energy.

In my opinion, this should never be done - it should never be a suggestion.

On the G model Tanaka K98, you can regulate the pressure by a set screw thats in the end of the nozzle.

Well after doing some reading from reviews online, Id say just be paitent and wait for it to arrive then give it a chrono. Some reviews Ive raid stated that it was 480fps with a .20g on green gas. Some other sites say it goes over 500.Apparently on duster it shoots around 280fps. I wish I could recommend something but your best shots to just wait till you get it and chrony it. You never know, it may work out for you in the end.
