The Project (M2HB)
I figured my m16 wasn't nearly big enough, so I decided to make a .50 for use in defensive positions this year.
I used killbuckets plans, which have worked out pretty well, but it doesn't look quite close enough to the real thing. It's about half done now, I waited to post the pictures, as I wanted something to show off the bat rather then a "Imma gonna do this eventually" thread. Waiting on m14 box, barrel and hop to come in to get it functioning. The body of the gun is pvc sheeting bonded with model cement and superglue. It's starting to weaken already though, so I'll probably reglue everything with pvc welding cement. The stresses around the barrel are going to require it anyway. Unfortunately I had very little information as to the real gun to work with, including dimensions, so I realized far too late that the printer had scaled everything wrong, putting the receiver 3" shorter then it should be. I scaled everything else to compensate putting the gun about 8" shorter then it should be. Still approaches 6' long though. Will be using PVC pipe for the barrel, and working on the spacers between the layers. Trying to have the gun assembled and working for Sunday. But probably quite a longshot. Gallery is here I'm looking to contact anyone who does re-enacting, or has access to a real m2. I want to make a much higher quality model out of steel later this summer, and will need a better set of blueprints.

Leecas built a .30 cal out of PVC, and is working on a .50 last I heard.
Out of PVC sheets, very close to specs. Shoot him a PM. I know he ended up using an M249 gearbox though, not exactly sure why he ditched the M14 box. Here's his thread on it too: http://ontarioairsoftwwiireenactors....?t=402&start=0 Check out here as well for some plans: http://www.john-tom.com/ForSale/ForSale.html#MG42Plans

Im not gonna lie fantastix as your reciever may be 3" smaller than rs its still looking real nice. I cant wait to see finished. As for remaking one in steel you do realize that a 6' behemoth of a rifle out of steel is gonna weigh around the 30-50lb range? I mean if you do it kudos that would be hardcore, but you might be safer with aluminum? your choice. But still its looking good.
Forever Kaos, thank you for that link, I can see where all my time and money is going this year :-) I just bought the plans for the barrett, I wanna make mine gbb and if plans are good and rifle even looks good at the end of my brutality Im gonna buy the browning .50 plans and the mg42 and make one of each im so excited hahaha |

Yeah but it was moved by vehicles or on a cart.
My point still stands. You wouldn't run across the battlefield with a M2 HB like you would with a M1919. EDIT : Actually, I know the Infantry had a mount for it. So I "guess" it could be used on the battlefield other than for defense purposes. Still, it's an heavy bitch ^^ EDIT 2 : Actually #2, I didn't know the M2 was still that used today. Ignore what I said, I was talking about the WWII M2.

no problem, they are heavy none the less but ya they run them around. You may not see a guy going call of duty with it.

The 50 cal M2HB is being utilized by infantry on the ground in Afghanistan.
They are normally moved with a 2-3 person team. One person carries the main assembly, one person carries the barrel and ammo, one person carries the tripod.

Gun commander with the tripod, #2 & 3 at the muzzle (loader) and spade grip (gunner). Guy at the muzzle gets to carry a can of ammo in his other hand to balance things out. You get a stylish asbestos mitt if it's hot.
"Take it up on that hill" the young officer will say, then "no I now fancy it on that other hill", and then "the company commander wants it on the third hill". What fun!

Because I read that during WW2, the M2 HB was dangerous to move when a round was chambered and that changing the barrel was a bitch
