We did this with a smoke grenade and it went a good 150 meters before we lost sight of it. "Foomp. Spark." Gone. No smoke was seen on the field.

I'd like to know what the general opinion of grenade launchers are in the airsoft community. I've rarely seen someone use them and I am wondering if the fact that grenade launchers act more like op shotguns is disturbing to some? In the thread there is mention of holding down a corridor with a grenadier, but does the immersivity issue disturb a large number of people? Also are some platforms (under barrel, standalone, pistol type) more appreciated than others by the community?

Can't speak for the whole community, but in my own experience, the grenadiers worst enemy is their own gun. My own airsoft group got one... then another... Then another... Till almost everyone had one. But game after game, their usefulness was rare if at all. And soon, one by one, everyone sold them as they add SO much weight to your gun for SO little added benefit.

Like you said, they are basically a one-off shotgun. So you kinda have to play them like so. Nice CQB area, you can come around a corner and let one off and kill maybe 1 guy and scare the shit out of everyone else... But that's basically what 1 pull of a trigger does anyways.

IF you really want to use a grenade system that isn't a cyclone or tornado, then I would recomend getting a stand alone, or pistol version that you can leave on a strap or holster, use, and then forget. Because you are going to fatigue yourself very quickly with an under-slung on your primary.

As far as getting shot by them? I'll take 300 BB's going 50 FPS over a single BB going 350 any day.

i have 47 guns
out of that, 1 has a launcher
one is a stand alone launcher(6 40mm rounds)
i have a second rail mount launcher extra put away for the M4 in its needed
plus i have a russian one in the box that i never used for my AK47
i could use 2 of the shortest rail mounted launchers for room clearing
