upgrade handguard

i have an ris D.D ..and i found that i need a certain tool to remove the stock outer barrel ring..is this true?So i need to know how to do that myself,the stock handguard is off,but not the outer threaded ring

You're right in that that ring needs to come off. Either use an armorers wrench...or something else to grab it by the "gear teeth" and unscrew it. Sometimes a rag and channel lock pliers will work...sometimes a strap wrench will also...some are on so loose that you can just grip it by hand, others need to be heated and worked in a vice. An armorers wrench is best though.

yeah..thanx i did want to use channellock on it,haven,t yet,i don,t have a vice and soft spacers around the outer to firmly hold it...i will take care though.
