Ics sig 551
Hello ASC
I've been researching the ICS SIG 551/2 but have come across some conflicting information. I'm hoping to tap into the wealth of knowledge that is ASC and clear up some questions I have, if I buy it this will be my first AEG. My first question involves the internals, It is my understanding that the stock internals on this gun are a little above average but contain many proprietary components. Will I be able to upgrade things like the hop-up & rubber, cylinder, piston and gearbox ect. to a high level down the road? If so are these parts hard to find? My second question is regarding mags. From what I've found STAR and MAG brand are my only options as far as mags go but TM mags will work with a mod from the doc. I'd like to get some mid & low caps, has anyone used any of the STAR or MAG Mid/low cap mags and do they work well? And finally if you were to buy this gun and wanted to make an upgrade or two right off the hop What would you do and why? Thanks in advance for any info you can provide Greedy Last edited by Kozzie; January 2nd, 2011 at 18:58.. |

If you want a Sig, don't get an ICS. Get a G&G.

ICS definatley love their proprietary parts. if you want to run a stock gun ICS are nice, they are tough and well built. But if you have any intentions of upgrading, you'd be better off with another brand.

They offer a 550, 552, and 553 (which is the mid-length option).

Agh, but I love the look of the 551. The 553 just isn't the same.
Come on, G&G, finish the family? |

Check out 553's with a RIS handguard, they look pretty sexy. If they weren't like $700 in Canada I'd definitely buy one.

The box is v.3. The selector is the same as the Marui sig model.
Same with the Hopup. It is a sig barrel type hopup, but it takes standard rubbers and nubs. Its pretty rock solid, besides swapping the rubber, theres no need to replace it. MAG mid caps WILL NOT FIT. I needed to modify the mags to fit the gun, Filed down the mag catch since it sat too high. Also the bb retainer is too long, so I put in a spacer to negate that. And seeing as how i did buy the gun, first thing I did was put a tightbore and new hopup rubber in. but that what I do on pretty much ever gun I buy. but I noticed much tighter groupings when I did vs the standard barrel. Overall I like the gun a lot. I actually prefer this one over my previous Marui 552. |

Wow.... I can't believe someone found this thread, I totally forgot about it. Thanks guys for the replies I appreciate it better late than never . I've already got the gun and I'm quite happy with the performance. Diamond which barrel and hop-up did you put in it out of curiosity it's something I've been meaning to do. Also this is how I got the Mag brand Mid-caps to fit http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=117937 .

just a madbull barrel and guarder rubber. Also I did a spring swap today and the mechbox exploded on me, so while reassembling it, I noticed how bad the seal on the piston is. I think I might put a new piston head and cylinder head into it and decrease the spring to lower tension on the box.
