Laser sight vs. Red dot sight
So I'm thinking of putting a laser sight on my MP5 to make it look like those bad ass SWAT and ERT MP5s. Now I like the iron sights of an MP5 but I was also thinking of putting a red dot sight on as well.
Now I know some people have problems with putting them both on but to me it looks like one is trying to over compensate by having loads of accessories on their guns. I play with some buddies on private land and the conditions could warrant both because there's a large open area and then a smaller closed in area. Not sure which one. Any ideas? |

That's a very valid point that I didn't think of at all, thanks a lot man. Red dot it is then. What are some good ones to check out then? I had one that was a piece of junk and the knob twisted off pulling the innards out.

I really like the Aimpoint T-1 micro on SMGs and carbines.

Nothing wrong with the good old reliable Tasco RedDot sight, $35 at Canadian Tire..... I have one on both of my MP5s, batteries are easy to get (a 3 pack for $1 at Dollarama).

I'm still working on getting AV'd. Have yet to find time to get out to some events. The Tasco could be a temporary solution. 35 isn't bad but I was checking out some of the EOtech sights and I'm loving those. I'll do a bunch of research tonight, it's just good to know some brands that the community uses.

I wouldn't recommend an eotech on an Mp5. It just doesn't match the body and such. But to each their own.

I tried to fix an EOTech clone, what a piece of junk, and it was barely used. At least with the Tasco it's made for RS (can even mount it on a 12 gauge), so it's much more rugged and the lense won't get shot out on you.

there are a few companies out there that make a specific for mp5 rds, the mp5 doesnt usually have a top rail because of the way its designed, so these grip onto that bar that runs along the top of the reciever
keep an eye out for one of those , itll be the easiest for you to mount without having to get more accesories

Actually the MP5 I have already has the top mounted rail cause otherwise I'd just be using the iron sights. I'm usually content with using just the iron sights but the MP5 has always been that tactical kind of gun so I'm trying to give it that kind of feel.

Be cautious what you buy to fit that rail, there are two types of the low profile flavour, one is a sectioned rail:
![]() and the other is a full rail: ![]() Sort out which rail type you have, then sort out what you can mount on it and which you like more, the buying the RDS you like and a new rail, or your keeping the rail you have and buying something that will fit it. BTW, I have BOTH types of rails pictured above on each of my MP5s, I prefer the full rail, even though the legs are more fiddly to fart around with to install properly. |

Seconding the fact that an EOTech (the 552, at least) is enormous on an MP5. Looks totally off. Tried it on mine and I just had to take it off. Looks weird on my G3, too. Doesn't dwarf it, but I find the EOs fit an Armalite sort of profile much more cleanly.
