CANSOFCOM Colt Canada C8IUR (pics by Larry Vickers)

Larry Vickers posted these on his own tumblr and FB accounts and they've been reblogged several times over. Forgive me if they've already made it on here somewhere else.

Note the Colt Canada IUR and it's engravings. I can't find this exact rail/upper on Colt Canada's site but appears to be a variation of the L119 IUR perhaps custom made for said unit/s?

These were also reblogged by One Shot Tactical:

"Issued CANSOF C8. Photos are from Larry Vickers FB during his visit here to The Great White North."

ColtCanadaC8IUR01.jpg ColtCanadaC8IUR02.jpg ColtCanadaC8IUR03.jpg ColtCanadaC8IUR04.jpg

Incidentally, I'm thinking of using this as inspiration for a build. I'd like to come as close as possible to this but I realize I won't be able to get it exact. I was hoping some of the C8 guru's can chime in with some ideas?

Obviously the Integrated Upper Rail is not available for airsoft, but any thoughts on how I can come close to this would be appreciated. The G&P LMT MRP 9.5" upper is somewhat close. The other option is a standard upper eith a Dytac G-Style SMR Mk4 9.5" rail?

Thanks all.

I was curious as well as it didn't seem like that IUR upper existed anywhere else online that I could find in my ten minutes of searching. I did pose the question and tagged Larry in my question asking if he knew whether this was a non-standard upper meant for SoF personnel. No response.

No, it is a modified C8.

AR15's are civilian semi-auto firearms made by Armalite.

Kinda like calling all pickup trucks Ford F-150's.

Interesting... first time I've seen the front sight placed like that, neat. Anyways, you can definitely build something pretty much spot on, short of the rail/upper as you said.

Thought I'd throw in a pic of the Colt L119a2's for comparison

Dug around out of curiousity but couldn't find any info on that specific rail/upper. What it looks like is one of colt's rails/uppers with part of the side rails custom milled off. If you get a similar quad rail and have access to a mill you can just mill off that area and viola, similar rail.

If thats too much work, a KAC URX3.1 might be a close second (although the lower rail is slick as well, unlike that rail). Parallax tactical has a rail that's sorta similar (but at the same time, not really).

Everything else is easy enough to find, hogue grip, asap plate, bad lever, moe ctr, afg2, peq box, xps2, flip magnifier, enhanced charging handle latch, flip iron sights and an interesting QD suppressor flash hider of some sort. Definitely an interesting one of a kind build.

Thanks Lisa Simpson, I knew that.

I'm just being sarcastic because all these AR variant rifles just seem to be so vanilla and I like to take the piss out of it!

Good luck. Not like any serious army is going to use a different platform.

Unless you're a Communist.

Thanks for all the input so far!

I realize it's another AR platform, but I thought I'd post it for anyone interested in what the local boys are using. And it's not often I find something that's not already posted here LOL. I did a little digging on some of the other bits (some are obvious) and I think I have it pretty close:

The most interesting aspect I found was the flash hider / suppressor combination. The hider should be this:

Smith Enterprises G6A2-SBV with 22x1 mm RH O.D. thread with 1/2-28 I.D. thread Vortex
"Heat treated same as all other Vortex's and used by Canadian Special Forces. For use with SEI Sound Moderator or OPS INC Sound Suppressor."

It appears to be situated on something along the lines of this:
"Allen Engineering Collar Adapter Extender for Ops Inc Suppressors"
https://adcofirearms.com/shop/catego...pter-extender/

I figure the closest I'm going to get to this (without CNC machining) is going to be:
http://www.cobraairsoft.com/product_...0829c916212b79

Not perfect but wil do for now. Maybe I can mesh together something with a vortex flash hider at some point.

Sights are pretty easy... A.R.M.S. Inc. 40L BUIS:
http://http://armsmounts.com/shop/ir...0l-f40l-combo/

Unfortunately there only appears to be the rear 40L BUIS available in replica. So ine either spends $260 for RS or use something similar like the 71L combo which does exist in replica version but not 100% accurate to the build.

Optics are pretty easy however the Elcan Specter DR 1-4x is an another option seen in use in the wild.

The rest is pretty obvious and easy to acquire:

G&P C8 CQB/SFW (Acquired!)
Elcan Specter DR 1-4x (Acquired thanks to megaman!)
SPR Flash Hider & Ops 12th Suppressor (Acquired thanks to "tofu"!!!)
Magpul CTR Stock (Acquired)
Magpul AFG-2 (Acquired)
Magpul Enhanced Trigger Guard (Acquired)
PEQ-16 (battery box acquired - but would prefer a functional version)
PTS A.S.A.P. Sling Attachment Plate (Acquired)
B.A.D. Lever (Acquired thanks to ronin49v!)
Spare 10" outer barrel (Acquired thanks to ronin49v!)
Enhanced Charging Handle and Latch (Acquired thanks to ronin49v!)
Flip Up Sights (Acquired)
Ergo Grip for M4 AEG Series (Acquired)
Dytac G-Style SMR Mk4 or 5 9.5" (Acquired)

Nice! Will be interesting to see this build completed, hopefully I'll have a chance to see it around next season.

For reference, here's one of the images from Operation Nanook that shows the same flash hider / suppressor mount up close (albeit a little blurry) immediately in front of the triangle sight. This is also another C8 CQB version that I'd like to do... or at least just the upper that I can swap out with the other one. Hmmmmmmm....

This rail system looks and works better then the system that Colt Canada suckered the Dutch Govt into buying. This one looks like it has a purpose to why the rails are removed and why certain places wee left on. however, this doesn't mean the normal ground troops will have access to this system till parts on the current weapons system wear out. IIRC KAC offered to sell at a discount to the CF the M5 rail system, but the govt declined as KAC wouldn't let them build it in Canada, silly Govt LOL

BTW, can anyone ID the rail for me in the Op Nanook Image (post #13)? Some of them were using the usual KAC rails, but this one's a wee bit different. I used to know what it was but have since lost the make/model info and can't seem to find it again
