Band of Brothers, Pacific version

From Oct '07 WW2 magazine:

StevenSpielberg and Tom Hanks, who produced the epic miniseries "Band of brothers" are returning once again to WW2. Following the heels of their hugely popular adaptation of Stephen Ambrose's book, the producers newest war venture, a ten-hour, $200 million mini-series called The Pacific that is also intended for HBO will tell the story of three real life marines fighting their way across the pacific theater, from Guadalcanal to Okinawa.

The screenplay is based in part on the memoirs of Eugene Sledge, whose "With the Old Breed" is considered one of the best memoirs to come out of the way, and Robert Leckie, auther of "Helmet for My Pillow". Both Sledge and Leckie died in 2001. The third character in the film is John Basilone, who received the Medal of Honor on Guadalcanal. Basilone was killed in action on the first day in the Battle of Iwo Jima. Original interviews conducted by Ambrose's son, Hugh, will also be incorporated into the film.

A trio of actors is already slated to play the movie's marines: Sledge will be played by Joe Mazzello; Leckie by James Badge Dale; and John Basilone by Val Lauren. Filming was scheduled to begin in Australia in August.

I dont find the Japanese campaign as 'interesting' as the ETO, but Flags of our Fathers was pretty good, and I wanna see Letters from Iwo Jima as well.

I MAY be outta line, but although the add was in an airsoft mag, i dont really think the thread belongs in this specific section..

Anyways, Im excited.. Band of Brothers, was done superbly in my opinion, and unlike others, I am a fan of the Pacific theatre. Not only that, but im glad that That part of the war is getting more coverage.. lets face ti.. theres too much about Europe

Rent/buy "Letters from Iwo Jima". Excellent movie. I liked it better than "Flags of our Fathers". The fact that the actors all speak Japanese (english subtitles) makes it work.

It wasn't an add in a airsoft magazine. It was a article in a WW2 magazine ironically called "World War 2". On the same page, sort of news I guess, is an article titled "The Ghost of a Nazi Military School, Unearthed" and an article about the P38 found frozen in ice in Greenland. Part of the lost squadron in 1942. If you like WW2 history, it's a good magazine.

I thought about putting the thread elsewhere, but figured this is about WW2.
