Much the same way that the plates for the Wasatch aren't really optional, since the rig wont sit properly without them. Is that what you mean? Even then, I don't know that 3k is all that realistic but I suppose it could be.

Well, I thought that the vest wasn't available without plates. It was part of the purchase. Much in the same that: http://www.lightfighter.com/istar.asp?a=6&id=PAR-005!015&csurl=/istar.asp?a%3D3%26dept%3DLOADCA%26manufacturer%3D0 15%26sortby%3D%26numperpage%3D28 is for purchase with the armour, except in the case of the vest in discussion wouldn't be available without the armour, hence the high price I guesstimated.
