Ghillie Thread, lots of thread, litterally ;)

Okay -

Got my ghillie ALMOST ready to go.
I have about 2-3 more hours to go before it'll be ready to field.

Plus, I plan to kick the hell out of it, mud it, chuck it in a river ect...

View from the front - note: I am not wearing any gear.. ONLY the ghillie and sneakers... I'll post a complete pic when it's... complete.

View of the back... Only put about 6-7 minutes into adding vegetation... with 25 minutes or so, and some thought... this thing will KILL.

Picture from about 25 feet. Picture includes my entire upper body, facing camera from knees up, in a prone position, head up with arms in font. Picked a bad spot... background gives me away.

This thread has sold me on making a ghillie. Anyone have any specific recommendations for dyes?

Krylon paint.

Way faster and more effective.

rit die works pretty well. I found mine at walmart! I personally wouldnt use ONLY paint, but I'm not one to talk because I've never used paint at all for a ghillie.

I used RIT dye to get the bases.... dyed 10 meters of 20 a veriety of browns and a LITTLE bit of green.

Used a variety of brown spray paints to break up the colours when finished.

Hi I started dyeing my burlap today, I'm using Dylon Cold dye.
For the green I'm using A15 Tartan Green. the burlap I'm using is a tan colour and after one section It turned light brown/dark tan.
I'm not shur what I should do from here.

What dye should I be using?

Should I keep redying it with the same colour?

Any tips or tricks would really help.

i dont snipe but have been thinking of making myself a ghillie "cape" with hood and something I can strap to my reifle with hair bands when I see the need.

Simply so when I'm laying I can pull my hood up and it will break up my head, sholders and rifle..

I would like to eventually get a sniper but am having to much fun right now with full auto

thoughts on this? I have oodles of scrap cad pat I can strip and layer. maybe some burlap in as well.

What should I use to make the base of my cape and hood? I was thinking of ading snaps/velco so I can actually attach it to the back of my tac vest, for ease of use/removal?

Any more advise would be awesome guys.

Just got started on the first of a three piece setup for a team mate, working on the jacket right now. Attached is a photo after getting the netting sewn and shoe-goo'd in place and just starting with the fibers. Of course the elbow canvas still needs to be painted matte and further sealing around the edges is needed, but this thing is coming along nicely.

Do you hang the jacket to attach the jute strand? I hung it with a metal pole going in both arms, parallele to the ground, so I was easy to attach the strands and see them naturally fall down. That way, you know when you have enough at one spot. It's easyer to work too.

I'm making this one on my bed. Easier on the knees and ass (ceramic floor). I'd rather make this one outdoors so I have an instant colour reference to see how well I'm balanced, but right now I'm just doing a "colour by numbers" kind of thing and following the woodland BDU scheme. I'll be adding jute thread and such later which will help lighten it up, but for the areas we play the ground is typically rather dark. I'm using two different lengths of thread as well to kind of give it a more random, three dimensional appearance.

One point in the netting pulled loose on the left shoulder (didn't shoe-goo the front part yet, will be doing that later) so it is seen sagging a bit in the pictures, but I think it is turning out well so far. Needs some more jute for the hair effect and of course will need vegetation from the field before game time.
