Good ideas, I'm also planning on rolling around in the mud and getting sprayed with BBs.

Okay, I wore my ghillie today.

Small issue though: I think I'm allergic to burlap. I could hardly breathe the whole day. My asthma was acting up and I could hardly move, let alone aim my rifle.

Anyone have experience with hypoallergenic ghillie materials?

Are you sure it's the burlap and not the dead grass your playing on?

I'm not generally alergic to anything other than cats, but when I crawl into dead grass and leaves, I sometime have trouble breathing. My troat and nose swell a little, like an alergic reaction from the dead stuff I'm hinding in.

It's only when you are playing sniper and spending a lot of time close to the ground that you realise this stuff.

It's possible, but not that likely.

I started feeling that way on the hike up to the field, which is about 15 minutes. I usually don't get winded or anything, but I was struggling in the ghillie. It's not the weight either, because I usually carry more gear.

In addition, it got better when I took my headgear off, and worse when I put it back on...

Did you paint the burlap or die it?
Any smell?

I both painted and dyed the burlap. It may be that too.

The burlap seems like the most likely culprit though.

Seals Action Gear sells this ghillie suit, which is listed as non-allergenic. Any idea what it's made of?

If they are made of what I think, it look like a mix of cotton or nylon strands. It's soft to the touch.

Too bad it's a bow hunter type ghillie suit, with "jute" to the front.

I'm really allergic to mold and pollen. When I go prone early in the year up here (first couple weeks after our melt) my allergies go crazy. The ground is kinda wet and moldy. After it dries up and I condition myself to it (and maybe meds) the rest of the year goes fine.

This should help with the burlap allergy.

I built a ghillie suit a while back and wasnt to happy with the thickness of the jute or the colour when i was finished dying so i purchased one. It is one of the bow hunting suits where the front is ghillied aswell.

review...

The mesh is a bit small so it is VERY difficult to stuff it with vegetation, but never the less you can. Works best to stuff ferns or something with a stiff stem so you can jam it into the small mesh.

The base of the suit has about the worst seems ive ever seen. perhaps i got a lemon or something but the seems on my crotch have ripped open and the seems on my right leg have too. i have to reinforce and resew the whole thing to make it sterdy.

The jute is supposedly flame retardant but i took a piece off and burned it and it slowly burned, stayed lit, and dropped plasticy burning chunks and it continued burning (ever lit a pen ink cartridge on fire and seen the balls of flaming plasticy goo drop? thats exactly what it looked like).

The suit is very comfortable and has a hood on it which can be pulled almost fully over the face and it has draw strings to tighten it (like kenny from south park)

I really like having ghillie on my front because it allows me to stand up or crouch and still feel and be concealled. I do alot of crawling around and have found that honestly it doesnt get caught like people are worried it might get. In all honesty the part that gets caught the most is the outside portions of the legs. That is exactly why the seams on the pants have ripped.

long story short i think its made of synthetic material (says on the packaging if i remember correctly) so if you purchase it it shouldnt give you alergies like burlap would. I can tell you that while i was making my ghillie i was getting a stuffy nose and a closed up throat so you arent alone!

PICTURES!!

Epic picture showing rip in crotch >.> (since gotten worse)

Stuffed with stuff (would prefer more but was in a hurry)

blends in rather well

Nice. I wonder if it can easely be improved and reenforced.
I need a new ghillie, because mine is all worn out and soon to be out of service. I no longer have the time or the place to build a new one, so I'm considering buying one and improving it.

How about pulling the jute off the netting to sow padding at the front?
Is it easy to pull the jute off?

jute does come off regularily like when im walking about on the field i will notice i have twine hanging off my glove or in my mouth or w.e I never have pulled the jute off and thought about how easy it was.... just pulled it off to burn it that once. I would say its best just to leave it anyways. I love having camoflauge on the front, and ive crawled around everywhere and it doesnt catch...
