piston spring shorter

can anyone tell my if it is normal for a new piston spring, to shorten after a week or so in my rifle.

I installed a Prometheus 120 piston sring into my G&P M4 commando.

a week after instalation, I had a selector switch alinement problem, so I had to go back into my mech box, when inspecting the piston spring, I knowticed it had shunk about 3/4 in from new and was about the same lenght as my stock spring, 3 or 4 of the coils are compressed tighter in the middle of the spring, is this normal??

that's normal nothing to worry about...

maybe you didn't notice it, but the prometheus springs DO have several coils in the middle that are more compressed that the others. This is called "variable pitch." MOST aftermarket springs have this feature and offers higher consistency as the pre-load at those points are more consistent.
