Sniper Scope Advice Needed

Hey Guys, its me here again. So my wish finally came true and I got my hands on a
Real Sword - Dragunov SVD

Man this thing is SWEET! I am really happy with the gun, but now I got a dilemma on the scope thing.

I ordered a cheap ( $85.00 US ) clone SVD scope from G-Military a few weeks ago,



and I put it on the gun yesterday and tried to sight it in, but I just couldn't do it.

I am not sure if this scope is just a piece of crap, or if mine is broken or what, but it doesn't work worth a pinch of shit!

I am guessing that the scope I got is busted because the windage and elevation knobs don't do anything at all.

I sent G-Millitary an email about it but I haven't heard back from them, I suspect that the answer is going to be tough luck for you buddy.

So now it looks like I am going to have to buy another scope to replace this POS that I got. :banghead:

So I am wondering what you guys thing I should do, should I get another Russian POSP scope, or should I get a SVD - weaver rail adapter and put on a western style scope?

The POSP scope would sure look more authentic and correct on the SVD, but like most things Russian, I don't think that these scopes are as good as their western counter parts.

My second question has to do with magnification power? The scope that I got is a 4 x 26 scope and it really doesn't provide very much magnification.

I have never actually played Airsoft with other people yet, but I have in my head an image of being a sniper and laying in wait for my prey.

I am not sure if 4x power is good enough for airsoft, or if I should look at something like a 6x or 8x power scope?

More than likely the ACM Scope is not adjustable.

Lesson learned: Don't buy ACM.

i think 4x is fine , you wouldn't need more then that because its not like you shooting more then 200-300 feet max

Hey Gordo, I've got a Belorussian side mount to weaver adaptor that I bought for my SVD... My team does a Russian impression... sooo they didn't want me to use my western scopes

There's plenty of russian scopes that use rings... I find all of the side-mount POSP's and all that to be way too much magnification for airsoft... by the time you line up the shot properly... it's more often too late..

Russian POSP scopes are excellent quality scopes, you just ordered a cheap chinese knockoff. Get the real thing and you won't be disappointed.

I've seen Dragonov scopes that do sight in properly, I would personally like a Dragonov to have it's authentic scope just to keep the look but there's nothing wrong with going to a weaver mount system. It's your gun. It's up to you.

at what range are you trying to zero it at?

To be honest I was just playing around with the thing in my basement last night, so maybe 30'-0" tops. I intend to zero it in for about 100 feet when I get a working scope on it.

Hey Amos, thanks for the offer on the weaver rail adapter, I may take you up on it if I decide to go with a western style scope.

I myself am kind of partial to keeping an "authentic Russian" look to the thing, it's just hard sometimes to get your head around how different the Eastern and Western lines of thinking are.

Part of the charm of the SVD and the POSP scope for that matter is that they are so different than their Western counter parts, but different sometimes takes some getting used to.

I don't know if I am alone in thinking this, but in terms or sheer ergonomics there is no comparison between American or European guns and Russian guns.

Take a M4 or MP5 and they just seem to fit so perfectly in your hand, where as an AK47 is basically just a stick with a trigger.

I'm not saying one is better than the other, they both get the job done, but the Russians seem to give far less thought to comfort and fit and finish of their weapons than their Western counterparts.

Even this Dragunov SVD, which Real Sword has done a fabulous job on recreating, is a far cry from the comfort and feel of say a cheap L96 sniper riffle.

Maybe I will need to spend a little more time with my Russian friends to fully appreciate their unique qualities.

30 feet seems a little too close for the adjustment to be functioning properly.

I'd try again zeroing at a much farther range, preferably more than 100 feet. If it doesn't work at that range, then it's time to give up.

I always zero mine at 30ft (which makes it close to zero'd for roughly 100ft), then adjust for longer ranges when I'm able to (like at a game when I sight it in. My thoughts are either he got a POS scope that doesn't work right, or, what we say at work, "Pilot Error" meaning he doesn't know how to sight in a rifle scope, or just isn't able to figure out how to dial in that scope.

on alot of the chinese scopes the "up" and "Left" move the reticle in those directions.. where as on the real scope, Up and left move the point of impact.

Ya I talked to these folks already. Their HQ is in Ottawa but all of their product is across the pond in "Eastern Europe".
All prices in US funds, and $40.00 US for shipping. Boo!
Also 14 to 16 days to get it.

As far as the "Pilot Error" goes, (LOL) it is possible, but I have zeroed in a few other scopes in my time and they all worked perfectly.

The problem with this one is that the adjustment knobs for up and down and left and right, don't do a damn thing! I have even removed the knob covers to see if there was a way to do a coarse adjustment, but it didn't help at all.

I really think that this scope that I got is defective or got damaged in shipping or something.
