Bullpup vs Regular style
Which do you rather of the two? What are the advantages and disadvantages of both? I'm just trying to get a few questions answered before I buy a new gun, thats all.

Most of the disadvantages of a bullpup like empty casing ejection are meaningless in an airsoft context.
The biggest issue is that some folks like them, and some don't and the only way to be sure of what side of the road you're on is to try as many out. There are some unique to each type issues for both like hard to find magazines but those are pretty well covered off in the various reveiws.

Airsoft Bullpups feel wierd as hell.
FAMAS is good for magazines. AUG looks like an alien probe. ANY FN Bullpup looks good and feels nice.

Like RS, bulpup are more compact, the guys switching from M16 or other "fishing poles" to Steyr Aug, FAMAS, TAR-21, etc know what I mean.
The main issue on bulpup rifles is that it is a bit more difficult to change mag because you usually don't see as well as normal design and sometimes the mag catch is located at an akward position, le the type 95 and 97 : the mag catch is on the right side, on a regular rifle that's no problem (and for lefties also) but on a bulpup it makes things a bit difficult, sometimes only at first, sometimes it never go away. |

The l85 has easy to find mags (m4/m16) and its mag release and reload is fine but for atleast the ICS it takes a little to get used to all the weight in the back. If your playing CQB get a regulr but if you play a lot of outdoors get bullpup if that's what it comes down to.

now before anyone makes the "longer barrel in a more compact gun means it's great everywhere" statement I'm going to clear that up right away.
I'm going to use the Tavor 21 as an example, the Tar21 was designed for fighting in cqb enviroments and be able to transfer into long range engagements seamlessly (fighting in a farm compound to fighting in he field often the case with the israeli military) The longer barrel in a more compact weapon is prettymuch the only thing that does carry over from the RS to AS bullpup design yes it is an advantage some times BUT! in airsoft this only works to an advantage in field games, in cqb it doesn't really matter. often guns with longer barrels are associated with the field enviroment, with stronger springs and more torquey gearboxes the longer barrel assists in accuracy at long range. here a bullpup has an advantage, more compact, yet same long barrel as lets say an m16. In airsoft, if your using a gun that was built for the field, in cqb your going to be unessesarily hurting people, if a gun handles well in cqb (ie mp7) it will be underpowered on the field. If it's got the range and accuracy for the field (ie m16) it's going to be shooting hot in cqb enviroments. In real steel the bullpup is supposed to bridge that gap between field and cqb, but because it's airsoft, and we're not killing people we have to watch our fps, fps must abide by the fields rules and the cqb arena's rules. so the bullpup design, yes with it's compact body and long barrel can thrive in both field and cqb combat, but in airsoft not both at the same time, you'll be shooting too hot or too cold in one or the other, so when you do get a bullpup, just remember the internals are the big deciding factor, is the gearbox for the field? or for the compound? If you can get a bullpup with a quick spring change system (I don't know if any exist yet) that's the one you should get, so you can change from field to room to room clearing in less than five minutes.

Thanks for all the advice so far. Im particularly liking the aug as well as tar and even the f2000. Im not big on the l85, I have no idea why...just not fond of it.

AFAIK the Tavor and F2000 have a quick spring change function, so the power-range issue is a... non-issue.

To add to the power thing : you don't need a 400 fps to do good on the field, I always had my AEGs at 340/350, didn't prevent me to take out some guys with semi at 400 or bolt at 450...
Plus I could use the same gun in CQB. And I find more fair to the guys using semi at 400, they don't use full auto, they got better power instead. |

It's all about personal opinion with bullpups. I hate them. Aside from mag changes that most will agree that it is awkward, I've never liked shooting them. Uncomfortable and cumbersome to me and they are ugly to boot!
Beware of the poor TM AUG trigger. |

not to mention, the general opinion is that they are ugly...

What was it I said a few weeks ago about changing mags in a bullpup rifle? Something along the lines of "It's like putting on underarm deodorant in the middle of a gunfight"?
