Something like this
http://www.diamondbacktactical.com/G...d-P264C55.aspx Still not as good as a "real" ghillie, but it will be cooler.

Exacly.
It's so easy to built on our own. I plan on eventually sewing my own, if I can find the right material. I saw a real one upclose. I was impressed by the quality and the simplicity.

it depends on the type of material you plan on using. With burlap thread i use a range from 16in to about 24in. It also depends on how you tie the thread aswell

Just keep the strands short near your wrists and on the hood/hat.
And where ever you could step on it or have it tangle with stuff. Having it too long is a waist and will look like crap. I just use the jute strands, maybe 5 strands of about 12 inchs long and tie them on the net in the middle, so I end up with a lump of 10 strands, 6 inchs long. I vary my lenghts a lot, depending on the location of where I tie them. Keep in mind that they will also shrink a little when they get wet and dried.

I've been using 24" lengths cut in half and tied so they hang about 8-10 inches or so. I throw in the full length ones here and there to change it up and make it look less uniform.

Hey guys, I'm going to be working on a shoulder ghillie (Only covers the head and upper body) and I can't find a guide on attaching netting to my BDU. I have a lot of jute and burlap strands to use, three buckets of dye... But again, the netting thing is baffling me.
Any help and or links would be very much appreciated, thankyou. You're welcome ________ big women Cam Last edited by Strelok; April 11th, 2011 at 12:43.. |

aright guys, it's pretty simple. Go to your local hardware store and puy a lot of a glue called shoo goo. It's a permenent adhesive thats dries clear. Once you have that go get netting (best is 1x1in squares), you probably want to get about 10x10. Cut the netting to the whatever you want it for, for a stalker ghillie suit you will probably want to cut it the the front and back of your shoulders and you head. Attach the netting with the shoo goo, just spread the shoo goo out with a knife. You probably want to just gloo the netting on the sides of your BDU. For the hat i would recommend sewing the netting on ( just how i do it but you can do it however you want).
I hope this helped but if you need anything else just ask. ( i've made many ghillies of all kinds so i can help). edit: for netting you can buy badminton netting or anykind of strong netting from cad-tire. there will always be badminton/volleyball netting there |

ya i know, but if you can't find any netting try a local fishing store and get nylon fishing netting. It's really strong and durable.

If all else fails you can go the slightly more expensive route (the one I took because I couldn't be bothered to source materials locally) and buy a kit from www.GhillieSuits.com which run about $50 but comes with a 5x9 section of netting and pre-dyed synthetic jute fibers. One kit was enough to build 1.5 ghillies with way too much material on them! The netting goes a long way. One 5x9 section of netting was enough to build two complete three-piece sniper ghillie suits (the entire back and arms of a large jacket, the entire back of large pants, and a full "head & shoulder" setup for both). If you want a stalker suit (upright stalk, complete ghillie coverage front/back), you'll probably use most of the netting but still have enough left over for your rifle.
