A G&P idea that you may want to incorporate in to your design:

G&P tracer magazines have a push-switch on the top of the magazine so that as you insert the magazine in to the magwell, the button gets pressed down by the magazine and thus, turning on the UV LED.

That lends itself to a much more natural reload apparoach.
