TM AUG gearbox semi-auto contact problem

I recently bought a used TM AUG and it only fires in full-auto because of the contacts on the gearbox. Whenever I bend one forward, it will bend back as soon as i pull the trigger. What can I do besides the obvious thing of buying a new gearbox?

Thanks,
mkeras2

have you tried looking at the contacts inside the trigger mechanism in the mechbox ?
this is usually where you get the full-auto-only problem from, not the ones on the outside.

Outside contacts are for auto only.

There is a second set of contacts inside that is used with the cut-off lever to fire semi.

The outside contacts are supposed to be almost against the rear plastic part.

You have to open you mechbox to fix this.

ok great, I was totally lost, I thought it was the contacts on the outside, so I couldn't figure it out. Thanks a bunch guys.

ok, i opened the gearbox, but there does not seem to be anything wrong with anything. What should I do?

Relevant to my interests.
Anyone have any updates or any info on this issue? My Aug now only fires semi maybe 2-3 out of 10 semi-pulls.

something in your trigger switch assembly has worn over time and your trigger is no longer completing the circuit as it once did because your gun is pushing itself apart with every trigger pull; prolly not by much...

So get a dime ( the money kind... ) and some electric tape, tape the dime to the back of the gearbox... that should press it forward into its proper seating and fix your semi auto problem...

If a dime doesn't work try a nickle.

The real way to fix this is with a piece of steel to replace the piece of shit plastic plate that secures your gearbox currently... but taping a dime to it works until you find someone with basic metal working skills to help you out.

no no no no that's something else entirely:

this is your trigger assembly (and a very nice fluffy blue towel):

and this is the part that got loose and that you have to tighten (the metal blades) :

when they're too far apart, you only get full auto.
when they're tight you get a super-responsive semi.

Remember the Aug has no fire selector, the trigger does both semi and full auto. If you are having trouble with getting semi with a half depress, your cutoff lever may be worn out or your battery may be too strong.

From Carbon at Airsoft-Baracks
Quote:
once you have stripped the gearbox you can begin on the semi

first there is a single screw that holds it in place. remove the screw and and remove the spring from the metal post

now slide out the piece that the spring was holding back and look at the bottom, there should be some grey discoloration on to show where the part is worn down

here's your culprit as seen from the side (if you can't remember how to slide the peice back in this orentation is correct, just insert the metal part first and replace the screw then the spring)

now here's the bottom, ive already shaved down the section circled so the area you see discoloration on you can leave alone, the shape off to the right is what you're trying to acheive by shaving this part down, remember this is because the second part of the trigger (the one with the notch) is supposed to catch this without slipping

Edit Note: Carbon's original photos moved to AirsoftCanada as the photobucket photos were removed.
This is the issue I ran into. The metal tabs were firm and made good contact but on the underside where there should be a catch is a ramp. It is so worn down (7 years of playing) that its flush to the bottom now. I'm going to try the fix with shaving it down and I'll report back if that worked.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone.
