use krylon acryllic clear coat. hold it far away from what your spraying, spritz it on in small bursts so that you end up with a textured effect.
youll know youre doing it right when you have a white powder covering the surface. its little specks of paint that dried in mid air before attatching to what was being sprayed. it gives it the appearance of being flat/dull
this method has proven very effective at giving a nice finish when i am painting custom skateboards. i should think that it would carry over to just about anythign that youre painting.
