Problem with the AK-74 fixed. It turned out the tappet plate had been installed incorrectly at the factory. It was behind the sector gear causing complete lockup. It was slightly damaged but on the side that doesn't engage any parts, so I installed it properly and voila!
Will post pictures later.

Now to attack the AIMS.

The problem with the AIMS it turns out was a badly formed copper connection terminal. I bent it to an acceptable shape and it started working again. The only problem was the sector gear somehow got in behind the tappet plate, like on my AK-74, and this time the sector gear destroyed the tappet plate completely. Any ideas on the cause? I am working on posting pics right now.
