You're going to be fine with the amount of dry firing needed to set the motor.

Of course wear eye protection.

Before you put the end plate on push the motor up with your thumb and test the height. Then put the plate on and adjust till you get the same sound. Doing it with your thumb first will save you time/dry firing.
