I wouldnt tell him straight up. Besides, if you kept your trunk _locked_ then the 5-0 would need a warrant to look into it. The stuff in the backseat however....
Next time it happens (if at all) if they po-po decide to have alook around your car, THEN tell them what they might find. Don't give them a reason to do a search.
