The polycarbonate would be facing outwards, not the screen side and I will affix a small layer of foam to my tac vest pocket. I doubt a BB can penetrate cordura + foam + silcon rubber + polycarbonate
Some other possible reasons to bring your phone besides compass and maps are to communicate on the headset with teammates, snap pictures. And for those of us who live in Vancouver we don't even leave an empty pop can in our cars here, let alone $699 phones
