I can't comment on the long mags(I don't have any).
I do own the short ones. I found the work nicely in m4 pouches(fits 4), but also would work in a 40mm grenade pouch(fits 3). Just be careful, if you use the grenade pouch, to not lose any out of the bottom! I've just carried the last mag in the pouch while holding the front handle(not for everyone, but I have big mits).
