G&G M4

Hello everyone

I'm back into airsoft after about a year out ( a lot of things happened in that year in the airsoft world, its crazy ). I'm glad to see the new prices and the better quality of several brands. Anyway, I was wondering what the general thought about the new G&G M4 was. Stumbled on it in an army surplus in Montreal and it looked very good (especially for little over 300$ including batt. and charger. So, is it worth it ?

Thanks

It all depends on what G&G it is? First of all is it clearsoft(clear lower receiver)? And what make is it? G&G makes quite a few differant levels of quality in their guns. For $300 I'm assuming its a CAS version. I have a G&G
M4 and its works great. You should change all the compresion parts as soon as possible though. There is a some great reveiws by Amos here about them. Let me look at I'll post the link.

G&G's have a very good overall quality. The internals are very good in stock condition. Although you may need to change the piston head, some people have had trouble with it. It has a bad airflow design or something.

I think I would go for an ICS m4 a1 instead. It's just 55 more dollars

Cheers!

Thanks for the replies !

Yes it comes with the clear lower receiver. I also was tempted by the ICS, it will definately be a choice I'll have to make.

Thanks again, if there's anything else, please share !

Or seeing as how you are already age verifed take a look at the classifieds. Lots of good " I'm to broke to go to school so I gotta sell my gun" sales in there.

If you get any of the G&G's, I'd suggest changing out the gear set.

Yeah I regularly take a peek at it but 350 for the G&G or 380 for the ICS is pretty good too.

Would you recommend I change the gear set right out of the box or can I game a bit with it before ? Also where would you recommend I get this new gear set ?

I personnally bought a G&G M16, Advanced version (seems to be tuned by TOPTECH).
Changed the spring, it now shoots 393 fps, everything else is stock parts. I love it!! Gamed it twice, works great!!! One negative point, the mag is loose in the lower smoke receiver, so I had to put on some tape on the mags to push them towards the barrel, to ensure the mags feeds correctly. I'll put a permanent shim into the lower this week, to solve the problem.

I've heard good things about the JG clones as well, they perform amazing stock (someone said they have 400fps out of box) and are competitors to G&G for the "I'm just getting into airsoft" crowd.

Check out VA (velocity arms)'s new custom line, they are pre-upgraded JG starter "kits" for a decent price.

Never judge the quality of an airsoft gun by its velocity out of the box. Many of the cheapest clones advertise stupidly high FPS, while the more expensive, higher quality brands often fire much lower out of the box.

You can game with it as much as you want. Besides the compression parts you only reallt need to change gears when they break. As for where to get parts if and when you need then I'd suggest www.airsoftparts.ca, Jugglez is very knowledgable had very competative prices and reddiculously fast shipping.

+1000 to airsoftparts.ca

But seriously, New guns work fine, thats why people buy new guns.

My philosophy is play with it untill it breaks (or at least for a while)

Sure, you might not have the best performing gun out there, but it will still be a solid weapon

stealthy1 September 28th, 2009 18:43

theguy, that's true, probably not the best thing to have said. But from what I've read, JG's are actually quite nice and a fairly lower priced alternative to the difficult to obtain full metal AEG's. Of course, upgrades are always welcome. Do research and see what needs to be done.

Huge September 28th, 2009 18:53

thanks everybody, I'll definately read more and more before buying it. Also thanks for the link to airsoftparts, seems like a really good retailer and will look more thoroughly at their website as soon as I get my hands on my AEG.

I spoke with a local store owner and he told me I was better off with the ICS than the G&G. Aside from wanting me to spend 50 bucks more, is he right ? I know about the split gearbox but he also told me it's more reliable and more solid in the long run. Is it worth the 50 bucks ?
