$232 is cheap if it really works.

Vince August 21st, 2009 18:12

Agree, good price if it's any better than TS and DH...

DH is working on a gen 2 radio, same good eletronics, but with better box, alumimum box with working buttons, not using the TS dummy box this time.

I will have a sample in about 2 weeks.

Huang,

Can you give a review on the spartan prc148 replica.
I can remmeber that i have seen picturese of a replia where you place a excisting radio,so the prc148 replica is just a dummy.
I would like to see a review also can you show us the internals

Huang will those of us that brought the radio be able to send them back and upgrade them to the new models considering the amount we paid verses the quality?

12 Attachment(s)
New Spartan Airsoft Working PRC –148 Radio

First off the radio is made from a Spartan Dummy radio case which is well made
Highly realistic and heavy-duty plastic it transmits on freq’s between 400 to 470 Mhz
At 3 watts max power using a built in speaker or military grade handsets or headsets
Radio is capable of transmitting using either ctss or dcs PL codes for private radio transmissions
There is an internal antenna the external antenna is a dummy
Spartans prc 148 has a rechargeable lipo battery that’s accessed through a hole in the bottom of the radio case
The case itself does not seem accessible or the battery as the rear of the case seems glued together
I would hazard a guess and say its not waterproof
Overall radio seems well constructed and accurate in details to a real prc 148 except the radio marking
Which is easily taken care of if you desire
Radio has a really nice weight and feel to it and seems durable enough to stand up to heavy airsoft use
Accessories that come with the radio include one dummy whip antenna, one mast antenna holder,
One dummy antenna extension cable. And radio charger plus instruction sheet, which just barely covers the basics of radio function and a realistic sticker, set . Spartan has made a 5-pin connector that enables you to use military commo handsets and headsets without modifying them
Its does work with stock H-250/u handsets and a real peltor comtec 2 with PTT
Transmissions are clear and crisp when programming radio to use either ctss or dcs you must refer to the guide that Spartan has as the codes are slightly different then standard us use codes I will attach sheets for both ctss and dcs in this post programming is simple and easy and pretty user friendly only the 3 top row buttons are used on the radio the second row and the alt button are rubber dummies there are 4 rubber buttons on the side of the radio that control handset use PTT for radio and channel confirmation
On top of the radio there are an on off switch and a volume control and the 5 pin connector
Overall radio seems robust and well made with good transmission abilities and fairly easy programming
And having tested the toy soldier and gen 1 DH prc 148’s so far the Spartans are the best quality radios
Out there at this time

Programming the radio

3 buttons on top of radio are
MODE button is down button
GR button is up button
ESC button is menu button

Programming screens are as follows

1 program channel 1 to 99
2 program ctss or dcs
3 program Freq.
4 program squelch
5 program hands free
6 led color (can’t be changed factory preset to blue)
7 no longer used
8 program radio lock

Hit Esc and channel button will flash use up or down to select the channel
Hit esc again to program the ctss code for that channel refer to chart for PL codes

Hit esc again to program the freq.
Second number will flash use up and down to select what freq. you want to move numbers hit the PTT button
On the side of the radio

Hit esc again to program squelch it is factory set to 5 set to 1 to talk to FRS/gmrs radios

Hit esc again and use up/down buttons to turn on vox

Next to programming areas aren’t used

Hit esc again and up/down buttons to turn radio lock on or off

Finely confirm actions by hitting rubber button under PTT switch

Now radio is programmed

To charge radio
Turn radio on using on/off switch
Plug in charger to wall
Then plug into radio red light should show on charger
Some times some jiggling need to be applied to plug to get charger to go red
You will see a battery on screen with moving line indication charging
