AEG mintenance?
 

Hi guys,

I have a Remington rem oil gun oil w/ Teflon,
Is that ok to use on an aeg for maintenance?

if so or if not, a link to proper gun maintenance and a list of recommended products i should have would be appreciated.

Like:
what type of oil should be used (w/ brand pls)
what type of grease(w/ brand)
Where to oil and grease
how often it should be done

I have done my research and looked around but id like to hear some opinions of a canadian perspective and alternative products and tips that i can use.

The best oil to use is RC car shock oil. It lubes things up nicely!!

I remember reading that the oil prescribed to generally maintain real steel weaponry can actually damage AEGs due to the fact that AEGs are not made of the same materials, nor do they work in the same fashion. Unless one of the veterans here gives you the thumbs up, I wouldn't let anything that's not specifically for the AEG near it.

As for common maintenance, all you need is 100% silicon oil. If you ever want to open up the mechbox and regrease, you'll need a proper grease, though I couldn't tell you what specifically to get. For my mechbox repairs I've needed molybdenum gear grease and silicon O-ring grease. Though I highly doubt that's necessary.

read the lable carefully, if it says it contains petrolium dialates (spelling?), you dont wanna use it.

NO, do NOT use gun oil for your AEG.

I use Amsoil 100% Silicone Spray and its nothing but AWESOME. ShaDo gave me a bottle and have been using it regularly since.

I looked it up, amsoil silicone spray looks hard to find, u know where i can buy it? apart from online.

Crappy Tire should carry it. If not then try checking any place that sells automotive parts.

You CAN'T use any grease that contains petroleum products in it because it will dissolve the o-rings and hop-up, etc. that are so vital to the airseal that is essential part to a working AEG.

For maintainance of rubber parts like the o-rings and hop-up bucking, use silicone oil. For greasing mechanical parts - use lithium or graphite based grease.

Don't use that white silicone grease you find at Canadian Tire, etc. That stuff will turn yellow and black and dry up and turn to glue-like gunk eventually. I hate cleaning that stuff out of guns.

I wouldn't even use the silicon spray because the ones in spray cans sometimes contain some sort of petroleum derivatives in the aerosol. Get a little bottle of silicon oil from airsoftparts.ca or something.

I'll always laugh at the guy who brought his dead gun to me because he kept spraying WD40 down his barrel!!! He dissolved his hop-up bucking and destroyed the o-rings in his cylinder and piston.

Superlube or Viperlube is where it's at :)

Go to a hobby shop, ask for 30 weight shock oil. 4.99 and its a massive bottle.

The only oils i use 100% silicone spray (CA is pretty good), lithium grease for the gears and other internals, and 3 in 1 and put in on a piece of cloth and rub it on the external steel parts such as the outside of the body pins to prevent rust.
