Do silencers really silence an AEG?
I was wondering if silencers that can be added to AEGs really do silence them?
I think I overheard (or read) somebody talking about two types of silencers. How to make sure you buy the right kind (one that Do silence the AEG)? Thanks! |
Silencers are more for show, or too hide an extended inner barrel.
Silencers that have foam inside will help silence the noise a bit... but its stillm the motor/mechbox that are noisy. You can buy a silent piston head with a sorbo pad to help the noise level down a bit... But some silencers are great, the TM mk23 non blow back set has a silencer and the non-blow back and silencer together make that a deadly weapon. |
Depending on your AEG, yes they do.
They remove the air blast produced at the mussle. But the main source of sound of an AEG is it's gearbox, wich is not silenced by the silencer. My P90, for example, is silenced almost completely when I put the silencer on. G36 can also be silenced pretty well. I find that armalite rifles are hardly silenced. The MK23 NBB is the best example of a working silencer/pistol combo. Without the silencer, the pistol make a loud "smak" and when equiped with the silencer, it make almost no sound. |
can silencer also lower the fps sometimes?
|
I never noticed that effect.
On upgraded gun, they sometime interfere with the BBs trajectory. I've seen a lot of silencer getting filled with BBs bouncing in them and destroying the inside. It has to do with the hopup making the BB rise to quickly in it's trajectory and hitting the inside walls of the tube. Not good. |

Also on my JG 416 the silencer made a large difference. When I took the silencer off the gun due to the accuracy problem I thought my gun was broken due to how loud it seemed. Threw the silencer back on and it sounded "normal". :D |
I have a foam-filled silencer for my MP5 and it muffles the muzzle sound significantly, but it does nothing for silencing the mechbox.
As for velocity, I believe that a silencer on a real gun does affect velocity (not 100% sure on that though), but it has little to no effect on an airsoft gun. |
a silencer ment to scilence wont affect velocity, but if you are just using it to increase the length of the barrel than it will make a difference.

Got a silencer on my G36. It helps a fair bit, actually. Muffles the report of the shot. Nothing too big, but enough to make determining location of shots more interesting.

My M14 was ridiculously quiet without a suppressor, I wish I had a chance to try it out with one, when it's owner gets back from ROTP we'll give it a few test shots. |

Some Real steel suppressor do modify the point of impact of bullets, wich require re-zeroing the rifle for the supressor. If they mess with bullets PoI, they must mess with fps.
