Removing the delta ring
 

After a game back in January, my rifle got a bit wet. I guess I didnt dry it out as thuroughly as I thought and rust must have started inside the delta ring and now.. the damn thing is stuck on.

Tried using an armorers wrench.. no dice. Tried using WD40 and a plethora of other solvents.. no dice. Took it to a shop, and they used a tool that applied over 300lbs of pressure... the receiver started to bend, but still no dice.

Anyone have ANY suggestions on how to get the delta ring off without damaging the receiver, barrel or ring?


On the plus side though, ill never have to deal with barrel wobble again...

Sounds like you're getting desperate. Here is my desperation solution.

Take out all the internals barrel, box everything.

Pre heat an oven to 350-425F.

Put gun in oven for ~5 mins.

If you are lucky the Delta rings metals will expand faster than the receivers and you can get it out.

You can try the same thing with a cold temperature but beware of condensation.

I hope you honestly don't do this, i cant think of anything.

If you haven't used Deep Creep, give that a try... if you don't mind the possibility of ruining the finish, but it'll get that sucker off.

it sucks, because its mounted on a C8 guarder receiver.. which arnt exactly easy to come by either. damage to the receiver, be it physical or cosmetic, Id like to avoid. but ill look into this Deep Creep stuff. the people I had working on it though were professionals.. people who work with this kind of stuff for a living. good chance theyve tried things similar already. will find out later

There could be an issue with that random tool you used that applied 300 lbs of pressure. If you did this it could tighten the threads on the D ring and the receiver practically fusing them.

Vinnegar and CLR will remove rust if you soak, and they shouldn't harm your receiver, D ring.. I would still re-oil everything if you use this route as it will strip any lubricants, oils etc.

Basically any rust remover with oxalic acid should remove the rust.

so we finally got the ring off.
all it took was an angle grinder.

cut the delta ring right off. once we got through, the threads gave away and it screwed off. Turns out a "technician" whom "works" at Xtreme Tactics used locktite in the threads without informing me, and set the thing in crooked. That, plus the rust is what caused it to sieze in such a way. go figure...

Aww I was just about to suggest that! It's definitely easier to replace a delta ring than a guarder C8 receiver eh.

ya, damage to the receiver was minimal. a few scratches and a small gouge which can be easily repaired.
