what gear/equipment color?

Well I'm currently shopping around for some basic gear, and I'm just wondering which color(s) you guys recommend? I realize that it might differ for fields vs QCB.

I'm eyeing a black vest & goggles.

I guess what I'm asking is, in terms of concealment, does it matter wether you choose black or camo-greenish gear?

If your wearing black out doors, you might as well be wearing neon pink. Even though Ive done it from time to time, black stands out in outdoors very well, unless its nighttime. If your playing in a CQB situation where you dont have to blend into to the bushes then black is fine.

Honestly all I can say is its a matter of how you want yourself to look.

Personally Im going with a STARS look from the Resident evil Games/Movies.

Agh, I was afraid someone would say that. No swat vest then :(

The reason camo works is not because it "blends" with your environment, but because it breaks up the outline and pattern of your body. Many people have trouble with colours, my dad was red/green colour blind. But he could spot a bear at 1/2 mile after dusk, but only because he could spot the shape.

Solid colours give the best pattern, so it's easiest for someone to see you, even if the outline is a similar colour to your surroundings.

Yes, thank you mcguyver for clearing that up.
You can get the swat vest if you want to still, Im assuming you will be using it outdoors? You could always spraypaint it! Or perhaps theres something else similar that would work. Gear isnt about looking good, you gotta have something functioal that suites your needs.

Ahh, great advice, thanks mcguyver (did i take your name?) - I have no idea how I'd spraypaint something to look uhm, camo-ish....so I guess thats out of the question.

this was the vest i looked at: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=120224788883

I think i'll just try and find a camo vest...

RagingPigCop February 23rd, 2008 00:02

there are some sites you can probably try looking around on. Go back to the home page of this site and look at the top, waaaayyyyyyyyy up and look under Canadian retailers, they'll have sites that sell gear.

If you want to try some different rigs, and aren't afraid to spend a little money, go to Dave's Tactical. It's local for you and worth the drive. But it's like getting sucked into a porn convention, but instead of busty porn stars, you get oogle chest rigs, camo and gear.

TokyoSeven February 23rd, 2008 00:23

Yeah since your in Van I would hit up Daves.
Back on ebay though, if you use the words "tactical vest"
You can find lots of cross draw style vests that are very similar to the one you desired.

Go green. It's an all around color.

Choose a green vest and a patern you like for your BDU. Cadpat is a popular camo, as it's always used in milsims.

Black vest are only good for CQB. They really stand out in the wood.

Porkchop February 23rd, 2008 00:47

Like Fox said if you want something that works anywhere and you have limited funds. go with olive drab ( khaki green). That is a solid colour that works anywhere. It may not be sexy but it really gets the job done.

Kimbo February 23rd, 2008 01:24

I'd go with coyote brown or OD. They seem to go with any type of cammo and blend well whether you are indoors or out. I have a mix of both right now.

jameskersten February 23rd, 2008 03:05

OD is a personal prefrence for the simple fact of it works well with any BDU camo choice

ex February 23rd, 2008 03:12

coyote khaki or coyote brown FTW. Those two are all around winners, woodland, desert and cqb.
