What oils/lubes do you use?
What brand oils/lubes is everyone using and where do you buy them from? Airsoft specific brand or Canadian Tire/Other store bought?
Also what parts in particular do you pay special attention to and how much do you apply? |
Depends on how "Gucci" I want to get, but usually I have a selection of the following on my workbench:
Superlube Sticky-G Molybdenum gear grease Sticky-G silicone o-ring lube Regular 20 and 70 weight silicone oil Systema gear grease Systema o-ring lube Marine o-ring lube You don't need a lot of lube, just enough to lightly coat the gears' mating surfaces and a small dab on the piston head and nozzle o-rings will do it. |
I usesilicone bearing oil for RC cars for my GBBP mags and slide/parts. No petroleum products anywhere close to rubber parts. That includes spray can stuff.
For aegs I have whatever airsoft molybdenum gear grease I got and looks like a water based silicone grease for the piston assembly. |
certified labs premalube, aluminum base with moly & graphite additives, for use on gears
certified labs lithiplex, lithium based lube I'm trying out for compression parts good old loctite viperlube (they no longer make this specific formula that i have), tried tested and true for 3yrs of service on compression parts and whatever silicone lube came with my propane adapter lol |
Astroglide, directly to the shaft.

Graphite powder, RC Shock Oil (15 and 25 wt.), G&P grease set (Bearing, Cylinder, Gear), Guarder Teflon, Modify PTFE, Finishline Teflon (and White Lightning Wax Lube but I only tested it once, it's mainly for my bike chain).

Ive been using 25wt silicone oil on my o-rings (piston and air nozzle). Would a grease be better than an oil for the piston head o-ring?
I ask because the last time I pulled a certain piston out and checked compression, there was none, until I reapplied the oil. Wondering if it dries out and loses its properties for compression |
yes, silicone oil will dry out.

seems to depend on the type of product and operating conditions.. ymmv... I've had silicone spray oil dry up in a few weeks, and door hinges go right back to squeaking. But sitting on an O-ring that's not moving or being exposed to airflow or contaminating elements? probably won't dry up for a while.
If I don't clean the rails that the slide moves on in my pistol and just leave the bearing oil on... in about 15-20 mags it will be contaminated and dry enough that it won't cycle completely. But that's why you clean it after every use. |
I use white lithium grease and some molyb paste on the internals such as gears and piston. Externals, I use either a 50/50 mix of white lithium and graphite or use Silcglide, which is a silicone based lube from a sex shop. It may sound weird, but it works like a charm similar to RC shock oil.

man i wish T7 or aqua was up in this thread...

I'm a big fan of the Permatex Ultraslick for moving parts and silicone oil for mags.
