Best Gearset for a High Speed Set up

So, i need a new set of gears for my m4 since they literally shreaded due to the shear speed of my current gun set up.

my gun was broken and ive been having issues with the trigger switch so i replaced the whole unit with the x130 AWS raptor and its great, however i threw in an 11.1v lipo and it fired insanely fast, the semi auto had insanely great trigger response so that was no issue

i might downgrade to use 7.4 v lipo to lower the ROF but i was wondering what set of gears i should run?

the gun is shooting around 360 FPS on .2s i like playing ROF so yeah.. im thinking about short stroking my piston? would that increase longevity of the gears and piston? first time ive been using the AWS raptor.

currently have a SHS piston, and piston head,
was using stock KA Gears

thinking of either getting a Prometheus Torque Gear set or Highspeed gearset, but those cost a bit need something damn durable for a high speed set up

any suggestions?

RiotSC 10:1 gears. Last set of gears you'll ever buy.

You MUST shortstroke your piston and swiss cheese the shit out of it to prevent pre-engagement.

Oh yes.

Alternatively the 14.09:1s are great as well for a more "conventional" setup.

What is your ROF goal?

Swiss cheese yes, shortstroke not so much. There are tons of neat tricks out there, it may take some searching and reading but its worth it.

I will second riotsc gears, have several sets including his dsg rev. gears. Amazing products even stand up to my 14v lipo (45c)

prometheus gears are pretty heavy to be using on a high speed setup, especially in something that doesn't have a box mag and isn't constantly in full auto, it'll be really hard on your motor, especially if you have active braking.

Get a lightweight gearset, standard or high speed ratio if you're using a 7.4v, double or triple torque if you're using an 11.1v

400fps, G&P M140 motor, prometheus double torque gears, 7.4v lipo + triggermaster = 900rpm

For a high rate-of-fire setup, 900 rpm won't cut it. I would think something like 1400 rpm would be considered semi-fast and over 1800 to be insanely fast. I agree with TC. Keep the parts light.

SHS Gen 1 gears are good, and are under $20 too. If you gonna spend $100+ on a gear set, spend it on RiotSC's, not Prometheus.

As for short stroking, if you want your 360 FPS, instead of using a M110 spring to get your desired FPS, you should instead get a M130 and short stroke instead. As always, AOE is a must.

Could i use a Gaurder Infinite torque up with prometheus double torque gears with a 11.1v lipo achieve 30RPS?

No. Why are you trying to use torque-up gears and a torque-up motor to achieve 360fps?

iKliiu July 16th, 2012 16:21

Most efficient system to run is a high torque motor and high speed gears.

phloudernow July 16th, 2012 22:33

So, a Lonex Torque up motor + a Highspeed gearset would do the trick?

ThunderCactus July 16th, 2012 23:07

on a 7.4v lipo, would be pretty quick

iKliiu July 17th, 2012 03:04

Lonex motors are quite slow, so with a 7.4v, I'm saying that setup will you roughly 20 rps.

ThunderCactus July 17th, 2012 13:04

1200rpm I'd say is the top end of regular setups, anything above and you have to pay special attention to your build
