Selling Airsoft Guns Now Illegal on Facebook
Since Facebook is being run by angry soccer moms now, airsoft sales are banned alongside realsteel... For some reason.
There is already a petition up to show Facebook that they're really just hurting people. Hopefully you guys can sign it to support the fight against this ban. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/921/8...243&cid=fb_na# |
meh, I kinda prefer buying/selling on forums... even discussing stuff is much nicer on a forum platform. Facebook's layout is not conducive of any discussion of depth.
Buying and selling here is easier because of the AV system filters out the retard kids that lowball a 600$ rifle for 50 bucks, and history of buyers and sellers can be easily tracked with the trader system available to forums, instead of trying to search for a guy's name to see if he had any dealings only to find nothing because he deleted his posts after the item sold or there was a dispute. |

A return to how things were on ASC years ago? Yes please! |
Won't happen without dedicated effort towards modernization and inclusion.
All stickies need editing and updating, scores of data need to be purged (or sequestered) to make the search function more intelligent, then an interface redesign. It can be done, and I must say that I am not criticizing the way it is now. However, I'm fluid in this format. Lots of fresh users of all ages will run in here and will be expected (in effect) to go from a handheld cellular device to a rotary telephone. Not trying to be a shitgiver here, but thems the breaks. |
I'm not excited for the ruling, but I'm not opposed to it. It will help prevent easy access to kiddies, reduce scamming etc.
As long as my page isn't shut down (upgrade services, not gun sales) then I don't really care that much. |
Totally agree. Facebook groups are full of misinformation and the ideal place for scams. This is great for ASC but we will have to work hard to get players to come back here. Modernization is indeed much needed, but we will need to promote ASC at games and events and make sure the flame-fest that used to be the norm here never happens again.
|
Agreed. This is the best place to buy/sell f**k facebook.
And I don't see this forum as old fashioned or dated, guess I'm just veld fashion and dated lol |
All my hits are mainly from Facebook; it's easy and convenient, granted 90% of the people who pm you want to trade, or low ball the shit out of you.
ASC is alright... more for people who know what exactly they want. |
Fuck ASC Facebook

This kills a lot of shady facebook business which is good. Hopefully it forces people to get AV'd and post here.
Speaking of which someone needs to clean and update the list of age-verifiers to make it easier on all the newcomers to find a verifier... Just saying... Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk |

umm you have not checked the lists in a long long long time have you..... just saying that was done months ago and the whole system revamped........ just saying....... |

I was also going off the word of a friend who said he was having trouble getting people to respond to him. Definitely looks better than when I got AV'd. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk |

They are very current. And this just goes to show that you need to find new friends, your current ones word is questionable lol |

I'm going to have to send out more ziming courier packages apparently.... |
Yeah, the new system doesn't just hold AV Reps more accountable, but it also has cut the average wait of two weeks to about three days.
This might explain why I've received some concerned PMs about people not being able to get AV'd in BC, though me and the other AV Reps are all active. I haven't gotten many requests lately, but a guy just told me that on the local Facebook page (not ASC) and out at some local fields there haven't been age verifiers. If you don't PM or directly message an age verifier, they can't get back to you! Don't expect them just to randomly be places! |

Why should we care that someone in the us can't buy their pew pew on facebook? We have asc and local forums to do our own business. Need something that isn't on the locals that someone else has on THEIR local forum? oh hey, drop them a msg and see if they'll ship, as long as it's legal to import. Or what, are we the only community to figure out that there are other places to sell shit other than facebook? I don't see what the big deal is. |
I say good riddance, I hate Facebook lol.

x 100000000000000000000000000000000 So many people are too lazy (maybe stupid?) to think that they need to do part of the AV process themselves.......... Like sheesh their mommy and daddy has just given them everything they want when asked for, so why shouldn't we just be like magically unicorns and shoot fluffy glitter all over them when they want to be AV instantly the moment they think they should be without looking to see how to get verified first....... |
see ya Facebook
|
Hold on... cue ALLLLLLLLL the users who bitched and complained and swore against using ASC as a means to sell. "FUCK THAT AND YOU ASSHOLES IM NOT GONNA GET AGE VERIFIED CUZ MY MOM SAID IM SPECIAL" etc etc etc....
Well to those tweens, I say 'Welcome to ASC'. |

I've never been on Facebook!
*laughs maniacally, whilst spinning to face everyone in a fancy chair and petting a white pussy* Totally could be taken the wrong way. Anyways, Optix (the other AV Rep for Greater Vancouver) might not be on Facebook either, so perhaps that's where the bitching originated. |
Oh well... At least airsoft lasted longer than firearm sales. Real guns groups got nuked about a week ago. Now I need to look for new sources of milsurp ammo :(

I found that if you steer clear of the generic "how do i see x sub forums" or "how do i get age verified" thread people get upset when we reply with "please read sticky" or "you need to be AV'd to see" because it seems like a daunting task when you first hear about it but it's not that big of a deal once you actually do it. It's like going to a restaurant and you see something on the menu, and the waiter tells you it's for VIP's only in a snobby way, you would feel like, "ok obviously you don't want my business here so i'll leave" kind of impression. At least that's the impression I get when we tell people to get AV'd. With Facebook all you need is an email and a phone number and that's it. It's accessible to anyone and everyone but that's not the point of being AV'd. It's supposed to be at least somewhat arduous but not impossible, however, it makes it that much more intimidating to start the process when they sense "elitist assholes" which scare away newcomers. And then others read that one thread and get the same impression and leave as well. I would have thought airsoft on FB would be prohibited since it's already against ToS on craigslist and kijiji places alike. Kind of overdue. Sucks to be venders who advertise solely online who don't have a website though. TL;DR, the way some people tell others to get AV'd feels like the when clique in highschool that always goes "you have to be in our club if you wanna know what we're up to" which is pretty off-putting. |

Tell them its a two way street, put forth the genuine effort to either get AV'd with the means available, or if you are remote and your last av'er is retired, ASC will do their best to help you. Telling people who bring up those factors to either drive or F off is only contributing to the problem. Time to put forth more positive answers and display the truth, ASC will help if you are willing to help yourself and there are more options than get in your car and you better get lots of timmies... |
^ agreed, it's the only way the sport will continue to grow, I just like being a prick to people on the internet!

No wonder I couldn't get accepted on to Toronto Airsoft Classifieds on FB, so stupid

Usually there isn't a whole lot we can do in certain circumstances. There was some guy in the Baffin Islands one time (I believe in a fly-in community) who wanted to be AV'd, but he had also lost his license to DUI or something, but was demanding an AV Rep travel up there (car, train, plane) and verify him as it would be difficult to head south. Sorry, but unless a rep happens to be traveling through a specific community, you've gotta come to them. I always reccomend that they get all their buddies signed up and do a road trip together to save on gas, etc. They can also hit up all the shops and crap in the larger centers while they are down there. Not ideal, but until there's someone closer, options are only really one. No way to sugar coat that. |
You know our AV system works wonders when I get PM's asking me if there is any support ASC can give over a scam deal on another forum/FB page to the person who was scammed for their $$/goods.
Our system works, as we hold our members who take a few minutes of time to read and get AV'd to a higher standard of responsibility and honour then most other pages where everything is handed to them on a golden platter. Problem with the golden platter is most times is just highly polished brass plating hiding all the rust underneath. Yea we might have some rust here at ASC, but it is improving and functioning that in the past 10 years I have only had to deal with about 3 legitimate trade complaints, 2 of which were resolved quickly and 1 that resulted in an AV removal. Compared to the early days and pre AV status when it was almost a daily occurrence. I'd rather have that "rust" then be all fluffy and glitter covered and not be able to offer some level of support in a trade gone bad dealing (heck another forum mention on this thread I have received 3 Pm's regarding bad dealings on it asking if we could help as the admins there just wash their hands and say not their problem), in one of the cases I could as the person used their AV status here as a reference and confirmed via our PM system who they were for the dealing. |
Really? Not selling real steel on FB I can see and understand. But Airsoft and paintball??? WTF?
|
SO maybe its time to relaunch........Airsoft Canada 2.0 face lift the community and the reputation of airsoft Canada which has taken a beating in the last years. will get haters commenting .. but I love this site and this is a perfect time to breath life back in with new members .

ASC soaks up so much of my boredom daily that I could be car jacked by an admin and I probably wouldn't even press charges.

1) this is not a new rule on Facebook, it has existed for 5+ years.
2) They are just enforcing it more finally due to the mass shootings in the USA and lawsuits 3) They will not ban links to retailers and other websites as this is the source of 90% of their revenue from ads. 4) it is okay to link to a website as long as it is not a direct link to a sales ad. 5) Many people in the airsoft community have known about these rules for years, some even talked about it years ago but said lets see what happens, well its finally happened, but the base allowances are still there and allowed. Sound familiar? It another "Airsoft is Banned In Canada" panic attack. Calm down. WE ASC are still here, the forums work great. Scams due to the Age verification program are next to nonexistent. Just tell your FB friends to sign up here all is good. |
I miss the good old grey market air-soft days where a new plastic body JG 416 for $450 would sell like hot cakes and was considered a pretty good deal.
on second thought scratch that..... Anywho welcome back anyone who tried to escape ASC. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...6f9ed5479b.jpg |
