I'm going to add a small update, seeing as I noticed retailers stocking SuperMAX guns. SuperMAX guns are only compatible with the silver M165 cylinder. The sector gear is larger to alter the gear ratio to efficiently pull back the M165. You need to machine open the sector gear notch on any other cylinders you want to use in that gun, or replace the M165 spring with an M110, M130, etc.

This has been known for awhile, but some retailers apparently aren't aware.

Also, since I looked and it hasn't been brought up in this thread, don't use silica BBs in the PTW. The nozzle and hop-up will chop a styrene BB if there is a misfeed, or it will push the BB through if the feed isn't precise. Silica BBs do not feed well in the double-stacked mags of the PTW, and this is the prime source of misfeeding. The silica BB will not chop and the resulting impact of the piston will destroy your nozzle and hop-up chamber. Minimum repair cost would be about $150 in parts, unless anyone has spares (most people don't). This has been known for awhile as well. Anyone who tells you different should be dealt with cautiously.

hmm... Still kinda pricy though. With duties applied Super Max cost around $1700CDN, selling at $2080 is a little high imho. But whatever floats your boat I guess.

I see $200 ICS guns still selling for $400+++ at every retailer in Canada.

You're point is..............................?

I brought up my post above about the SuperMAX as I noticed a retailer listing it with MAX cylinders. Initially, I lol'd, however it became quickly apparent that the guy who forked out the big money believing the retailer, well, he is going to be the loser, and an expensive lesson it could be indeed.

There are very few guys in Canada who really know the PTW. I still get repair/mod requests for them, and I announced over a year ago that I wasn't doing it anymore.

I wouldn't trust a dealer who doesn't know their product, especially regarding a PTW.

Didn't notice Mach1 was selling at $2200, so I guess I can't compain that much onto the doubletactical.

Even if the price is that, one still needs to mod the motor if you don't want problem. Hopup mod is also recommended to increase range and accuracy. (heard somepeople got 6" group @ 30 yards with tackleberry mod) Just saying might be a better idea to get Tackleberry premodded ptw.

Are Canadian versions of the SuperMax different from what is offered in Europe and Asia? Reason I ask is that Euro SuperMax versions are said to produce 550-600fps while the local ones are up to 100fps slower.

Drunk_Albertan November 19th, 2010 21:52

To my knowledge, all super max PTW's are pushing 550-600+ fps. Pretty hot for just about any field. No difference to region.
Thanks mcguyver for pointing that out about the supermax cylinder compatability.
As for the price, I think they're reasonable for a brand new in box uber sexy ptw. I believe on the new models they have rectified the motor issue, but I'm no expert.

mcguyver November 20th, 2010 18:49

The motor issue is still there. Systema has tried to solder the pole/comm connection, but the windings are still the issue. About 10-20% of the motors will fail quickly, and are not repairable at all. The only solution is to buy a new motor from Tackleberry or buy his custom-wound armature and replace it yourself (if you are so inclined and skilled).

Cylinder question here,

All the springs are inter-changeable am I correct in this?

Ie: Downgrading a red M150 cylinder with a 130 spring which is TM or something?
